Australia is a unique and diverse country in every way- in culture, population, climate, geography and history. It probably isn’t the first country that springs to mind when you think about earthquakes.
Australia does, however, have a lot of low-intensity earthquakes and occasionally has earthquakes of a magnitude 6 or more, which has the potential to cause significant damage and loss of life.
Through the development of our high-tech Structural Health Monitoring System (SHMS), we are able to provide sensors that constantly monitor a building’s movement and behaviour. This information will enable improvements to be made, in need, to ensure that it is able to cope during major seismic activity and more importantly protect its people.
Global Seismic Data believes everyone has a part to play to ensure the safety of its people. Working with countries around the world to reduce and manage risk is a way to make this happen.
